Bury Your Past for Good!
How often do you find yourself the focus of someone’s accusations from years gone past—something you had buried long ago—but there’s always that one person who simply can’t leave it alone? You are trying to live a good life, trying to do things right, staying out of trouble and away from those who might lead you astray only to find one day, out of nowhere, someone lambasts you with something from your past.
Perhaps your past has been a bit checkered? You have done things you wish you hadn’t? If you had it all to do over, you would definitely choose differently; but, the past is the past and unfortunately we all have one. There are things we would all change if given an opportunity to do so.
The simple facts is when you come to Jesus and confess your past to Him and truly repent, your sins are forgiven and remembered no more. Consider the woman brought to Jesus who had been caught in the act of adultery. When Jesus confronted the accusers with their own sins, they slithered away quickly.
Then, He turned to the woman and said to her: “‘Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?’ ‘No one, Lord,’ she answered. ‘Neither do I condemn you,’ said Jesus. ‘Go, and from now on do not sin any more’” (John 8:10-11 CSB). Jesus buried her past just as He has buried your past. It is time for you to let it go, quit living under its condemnation and live in the victory that Jesus has given you.
When accusers come and try to dig it up again, remind them that your past has been washed away by the blood of Jesus. You no longer live in your past. You are living in the victory of your future through Jesus Christ.
Scripture Reading: “So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free” (John 8:36 NLT).
Prayer: Father, my past has certainly not always been one I take pride in. In fact, I am embarrassed and disgusted by some of the things that I have done. But, I thank you that You do not hold my past against me. Through Jesus Christ, I have been set free from my past and its eternal consequences. I have new life in Jesus and I ask You to enable me to walk in Your strength and power so I may continue to overcome when temptation to do wrong comes my way. Thank you for my salvation and freedom to live in victory—in Jesus’ name…AMEN!
