Strength for the Battle

Strength for the Battle
Have you found yourself overwhelmed by your circumstances? Your life seems to be in shambles? Nothing seems to be going right? You are not alone and this is nothing new. We can often find ourselves wondering if God really cares; if He even notices our situation and how seriously desperate our lives have become.
David’s life was filled with times of overwhelming despair, trials, and times of desperation. I am reminded of one of these occasions spoken of in 1 Samuel 30:3-6a. The Scripture reads: When David and his men arrived at the town, they found it burned down. Their wives, sons, and daughters had been kidnapped. David and the troops with him wept loudly until they had no strength left to weep. David’s two wives, Ahinoam the Jezreelite and Abigail the widow of Nabal the Carmelite, had also been kidnapped. David was in a difficult position because the troops talked about stoning him, for they were all very bitter over the loss of their sons and daughters.”
Now, think with me here for a moment. David and his band of fighting men had been out warring against the enemy. When they return home, they find that another group of their enemies had come in and destroyed the town they were living in and had kidnapped their wives and families. As we compare our problems to this, we discover just maybe our troubles aren’t quite as severe as David faced on that day, but to us, they are still serious.
So, in his desperation, what did David do? Where did he turn to? Did he let his problem lead to utter despair? Thoughts of suicide? Running away to never return? What did he do? Interestingly, David recognized his Source of strength. He knew it was not within his own abilities or capabilities or those of his band of fighting men. The Scripture goes on to tell us, “But David found strength in the Lord his God” (1 Samuel 30:6b). David turned to the only One he knew who could handle this dilemma he and his men had come against.
When your life is overwhelmed; when you can’t find the strength to carry on; when life is crashing in all around you…find your strength in the Lord your God. There is no battle He cannot win. There is no problem He cannot overcome. There is no mountain in your path that He cannot bring down. Find your strength for every battle you may be facing in the Lord your God. Trust in Him today! Truth in Him always!
